This resonance spruce timber is made by rift sawing (radial section) of resonance logs. The most often thickness of resonance timber for sound boards is about 16 mm. Quarter-sawn resonance timber (resonance wood) is mostly supplied as fresh sawnwood, kiln dried only to the transport moisture content about 20% only. This treatment of resonance wood prevents its subsequent blue stain, cracking, or other defects, that could arise during the transport.
We are able to manufacture kiln dried resonance wood for sound boards as well. The kiln drying of resonance wood intended for the production of musical instruments is a long-time process. First the stripped stacks are air-seasoned at open space for some time. Air-dried resonance wood is then kiln dried to the moisture content of about 8%. We use our own dry kilns that are situated in the premises of the sawmill. Kiln dried quarter-sawn resonance timber is a semifinished-product for the following manufacture of the dimension resonance timber.
